From 3 November 2026 to 4 April 2027, Palazzo Esposizioni Roma hosts the exhibition FIREWORKS. Ileana Sonnabend and the Boom of Contemporary Art, dedicated to the gallerist and collector (1914-2007) who acted as a bridge between the European and American art scenes. The exhibition brings together fifty-four works by thirty-five artists, from Pop Art to Arte Povera, from Minimalism to Neo-Expressionism, with works by Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Mario Merz and Jeff Koons. The narrative follows Sonnabend's story within the boom of contemporary art in the second half of the twentieth century, exploring the affinities and differences between the two sides of the Atlantic. The exhibition is promoted by the Assessorato alla Cultura di Roma Capitale and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, in collaboration with The Sonnabend Collection Foundation New York and Marsilio Arte, and is curated by Mario Codognato.
